Rochester Cathedral

The historic town of Rochester is most famous as the home of Charles Dickens and the location of many of his novels and characters. It is situated in north west Kent on the estuary of Kent’s major river – the Medway. Its cathedral is England’s second oldest, founded by St Augustine in AD 604 and a place of pilgrimage for almost 1400 years. It has developed into a blend of styles from virtually every period of English architecture and contains a medieval crypt with an altar to Ithamar, the first bishop.
